Blockbuster Action Movie Series

#1 - Mad Max: Fury Road

Join Chris (and eventually author Mark Pedersen) as they analyze and review (with FULL SPOILERS) Mad Max: Fury Road, the 2015 action blockbuster directed by George Miller.

Emotions and energy are high in this bi-polar episode that first sees Chris covering the film solo. Then Mark weighs in with his (opposite) opinion - and it gets interesting.

Tom Hardy is our new Max. Does he fit? Is this even Max's film?

There's more to it than just a car chase...right?

Pour some aqua-cola, strap in and ride with us, eternal, to the gates of Valhalla.

Mark has 2 science fiction fantasy novels ready for your reading pleasure.

#2 - Furious 7

Join Chris as he analyzes & reviews (with FULL SPOILERS) Furious Seven, the 2015 blockbuster action movie sequel directed by James Wan and starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Jason Statham and Kurt Russell with a special appearance by Ronda Rousey!

Justin Lin has left the high-octane 'The Fast and the Furious' franchise in the hands of Aquaman director, James Wan. Can Wan out-do Lin and leave an impressive stamp in the series' 7th entry?

No more prequels to Tokyo Drift! We finally get caught up in the epic F & F timeline as Jason Statham joins the cast, as the villain, on a warpath that gives us a Statham VS Rock fight!!!
This billion dollar film takes the action to a whole new level. But does it double-jump the shark? Do all of the bald men and fast cars deliver the goods?

We globe-trot from LA to Abu Dhabi all leading to a climatic mega-battle that includes an absurd amount of car deaths.

Most importantly, this is the final film in the series for the late Paul Walker (RIP) and they give the Buster quite the sendoff.

Does it all work for Chris? How does it fare among the rest of the series? Prepare yourself for muscles, engines, one-liners, baby oil and Wiz Khalifa as we lead up to The Fate of the Furious!

Join Chris as he analyzes & reviews (with FULL SPOILERS) The Fate of The Furious, the 2017 blockbuster action movie sequel directed by F. Gary Gray and starring Vin Diesel, Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Jason Statham and Charlize Theron with a special appearance by Helen Mirren!

F. Gary Gray follows up James Wan's billion-dollar hit, Furious 7, with a bigger sequel and even higher stakes! Does the 8th installment in the epic The Fast and The Furious film franchise deliver on the very high series standard?

We head to the Cuba (the real Cuba!) as the mysterious plot has the leader of our elite spy family going Rogue.

There is a huge spoiler reveal in this film that has major ramifications for future entries in the Fast saga. Do a new villain (in Mad Max's Furiousa herself) and a new element of mystery pay off?
We've got trips to New York City, a Russian naval base, a massive action scene with zombies cars, a submarine, a new kind of action scene for the series AND.. Vin Diesel ACTING!...

Plus! Chris ranks the series.

Prepare yourself for booty shorts, burning tires, horrendous murders, more bald men and worst of all...Scott Eastwood!

#4 - Triple Frontier

Join Chris as he analyzes & reviews Triple Frontier, Netflix's 2019 action/thriller film directed by JC Chandor & starring Oscar Isaac, Ben Affleck & Charlie Hunnam.

Five former special forces operatives reunite to steal a drug lord's fortune, unleashing a chain of unintended consequences & challenging their deepest morals.

Netflix is really stepping it up! Enlisting an A-level cast & crew to deliver a deeper-then-expected heist film. Does the action deliver? Can this exceptional cast tear down their genre stereotypes? Is Charlie Hunnam just Jax from Sons of Anarchy? Wait...Is Ben Affleck a great actor?

Most importantly, did they really think this heist out?

#5 - Dragon Ball Super: Broly

Join Chris as he analyzes & reviews Dragon Ball Super: Broly, the 2019 anime action movie, directed by Tatsuya Nagamine & starring Masako Nozawa.

With a reimagined origin story of the uber-famous Dragon Ball Z, we are officially introduced to the legendary super saiyan, Broly. He may be the most raw & powerful being in the multiverse...but is he strong enough to beat both Vegeta AND Goku?

Is this an accessible story to mainstream audiences? Is it a story worthy of a feature film? Are the fights epic? Just how much does Broly scream? Could Frieza get any more evil? How long does Vegeta need to learn fusion?

Most importantly, who wins the universe-shattering fight?

#6 - Triple Threat

Join Chris as he analyzes & reviews Triple Threat, the 2019 all-star action movie, directed by Jesse V. Johnson, & starring Tiger Chen, Tony Jaa & Iko Uwais.

A hit contract is taken out on a billionaire's daughter who is intent on bringing down a major crime syndicate. A down and out team of mercenaries must take on a group of professional assassins and stop them before they kill their target.
Sounds just about right for an epic!

But does it satisfy? Do all the great performers get their moment to shine? Does Michael Jai White get another remarkable death? Is this a Fast & Furious wanna-be? How awesome are the fights? Wait, the plot twist is what?

Most importantly, is Scott Adkins the most badass of them all?

#7 - Robin Hood (2018)

Join Chris as he analyzes & reviews Robin Hood, the 2018 action fantasy film, directed by Otto Bathurst & starring Taron Egerton & Jamie Foxx.

A war-hardened Crusader and his Moorish commander mount an audacious revolt against the corrupt English crown.

Do you love Batman Begins? Then you might really dig this!
Robin 'The Hood' is back once again to steal cliche villain lines from Sheriff Nottingham and give badass action to us.
But does Eggsy have enough movie stardom to carry a 'new' franchise? How's this Nottingham? How many arrows can one person fire in a second? How many sequel setups can you spot?

Most importantly, who keeps giving Jamie Dornan such laughable roles?!

#8 - Game Over, Man!

Join Chris as he analyzes & reviews Game Over, Man!, the 2018 Netflix comedy/action movie, directed by Kyle Newacheck & starring Adam Devine, Anders Holm & Blake Anderson.

Three friends are on the verge of getting their video game financed when their benefactor is taken hostage by terrorists.

These are the Workaholics guys and they've been doing comedy for a while..but do they have what it takes to produce a satisfying feature film?
Is it funny? Is it a good parody? How awesome is the action? How do they use the VERY R-rating? Will Shaggy sing 'It Wasn't Me'?

Most importantly, how many dick shots are there?

#9 - John Wick

Join Chris as he analyzes & reviews John Wick, the 2014 action revenge movie, directed by Chad Stahelski & starring the legendary Keanu Reeves.

An ex-hit-man comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that killed his dog and took everything from him.

Keanu is easily one of the most recognizable action stars in film history! But did he truly strike gold with this new update on the classic action sub-genre?
Is Michael Nyqvist an acceptable villain for Wick? Do they just cheaply manipulate with that dog scene? Are there too many headshots? Is it believable?

Most importantly, is it the best action movie of all-time?!

#10 - John Wick: Chapter 2

Join Chris as he analyzes & reviews John Wick: Chapter 2, the 2017 action movie sequel, directed by Chad Stahelski & starring the legendary Keanu Reeves.

After returning to the criminal underworld to repay a debt, John Wick discovers that a large bounty has been put on his life.

Baba Yaga returns! But should he have? Would this series have been better left...not a series?
Is the action better? Does Keanu give a stronger performance? Is the villain somehow better? Does Wick lose another dog? Does he lose another wife? Does he lose himself? Does adding Laurence Fishburne bring back their blockbuster chemistry from The Matrix?

Most importantly, does he have the biggest body count in movie history?

#11 - Alita: Battle Angel

Join Chris as he analyzes & reviews Alita: Battle Angel, the 2019 science fiction/action movie, directed by Robert Rodriguez & starring Rosa Salazar.

A deactivated cyborg is revived, but cannot remember anything of her past life & goes on a quest to find out who she is.

Sounds simple enough. Especially for a fantasy epic, set in space, produced AND written by the one & only James Cameron.
But did he pay enough attention to his scriptwriting amidst all his Avatar business?

Is the giant budget to make Alita look manga-accurate justified? Is her story one worth telling? This movie has a great cast...are they well-utilized? How's the action? Who asked for this phantom menace villain? Does Mahershala Ali have the cool factor to play Marvel's Blade? Did that ending really just do that?!

Most importantly, is this a backdoor MegaMan movie??
